Setting up Happ on a PC comes down to three actions: copy a key or subscription link, click “+” and import it from the clipboard, then pick a server and connect. Use TUN for all of the computer's traffic; the system proxy is enough for a browser.
After installation, Happ on Windows is empty: it has no servers until you add your key or subscription. On Windows the connection is handled by the Happ background service, so if it fails, the app reports an unexpected service stop. TUN mode captures the traffic of all programs, while the system proxy affects only apps that respect the Windows proxy settings.
Before You Start
Setting up Happ on a Windows PC takes a few minutes: add a key or subscription, choose a server, choose a connection mode and check the ping.
What is special about Windows is the Happ background service. It is installed together with the app and handles the connection, so service errors are fixed by restarting or reinstalling, not by editing the key.
The steps below are for the current Qt 6 build for Windows 10 1809+ and Windows 11. In Legacy 1.0.2 for Windows 7 the interface may differ.
Step-by-Step Setup
Launch Happ after installation
Open Happ from the Start menu. If Windows asks you to confirm starting the service or granting administrator rights, confirm: without the service the connection will not be established.
Result: The main window opens with an empty server list.
Copy a key or subscription link
Copy the string you received from your provider or from your own server: a key such as vless://, vmess://, trojan://, ss://, socks://, hysteria2://, or a subscription address. An encrypted subscription starts with happ://crypt.
Result: The whole string is in the clipboard, with no spaces at the start or end.
Add the configuration with the “+” button
Click “+” at the top right and choose paste from clipboard. If you have a deep link, click it in the browser and it opens in Happ. You can also enter server parameters by hand: “+” → manual entry → protocol → fields → Done.
Result: The server, or the group of subscription servers, appears in the server list.
Choose a server and a connection mode
Select a server in the list. Decide which mode you need: TUN for all of the computer's traffic, or the system proxy for a browser and apps that respect the Windows proxy settings.
Result: The chosen server is highlighted, and the mode is shown in the interface.
Connect
Click the connect button. The first time you turn on TUN, Windows may create a new network adapter, and the firewall may ask for permission for Happ. Allow access on private networks.
Result: The status changes to connected, and in TUN mode a virtual interface appears in the list of network adapters.
Check the ping and the current connection
Run a ping for the whole subscription with the speedometer icon in its header. Of the three ping methods, TCP does not require you to disconnect the tunnel, and Via Proxy HEAD shows the delay through the proxy itself most accurately. Then run the current connection check.
Result: Delays in ms are shown next to the servers, and the connection check shows a time, not a timeout.
Configure routing and the LAN if needed
For split tunneling, import a routing profile with a happ://routing/onadd/ link or build one in the routing.happ.su generator. To share access with other devices, turn on Allow LAN connections in Advanced settings.
Result: A profile is active for the subscription, and with LAN enabled Happ shows the computer's IP and the SOCKS5 and HTTP ports.
Connection Modes
- TUN — Happ creates a virtual network interface, and Windows sends the traffic of all apps into it. Good for games, messengers and clients with no proxy settings. In pre-release 4.4.6, Xray TUN became the default TUN mode.
- System proxy — Happ writes its local proxy into the Windows proxy settings. Browsers and programs that read the system settings use it. Pre-release 4.4.6 has a setting for system proxy exclusions.
- LAN sharing — After you turn on Allow LAN connections, the computer accepts SOCKS5 and HTTP connections from other devices on the network. The ports are shown in the settings, for example 10808 and 10809.

Tips
If the connection is lost after sleep or a Wi-Fi change, disconnect and connect again. On Windows this is faster than restarting the whole program.
Do not keep two clients with TUN mode on at the same time. Two virtual adapters compete for routes, and traffic goes unpredictably.
When sharing over the LAN through a Wi-Fi router, check the Windows network profile. On a public network the firewall blocks incoming connections more strictly than on a private one.
The subscription auto-update interval is set by the provider with the profile-update-interval header. If the computer was off, the missed update runs the next time Happ starts.

How do I share a Happ connection from a PC with a TV or set-top box?
Open Settings, then Advanced settings, and turn on Allow LAN connections, then connect to a server. Happ shows the computer's current IP and the SOCKS5 and HTTP ports, for example 10808 and 10809. On the other device in the same network, enter that IP and port as a proxy. If Windows Firewall asks for permission, allow access on private networks.
Websites open, but a game or messenger does not. What is wrong?
Most likely the system proxy mode is on. Many games, launchers and desktop messengers do not read the Windows proxy settings and connect directly. Switch Happ to TUN mode and reconnect. If traffic still goes around the server afterward, check the routing profile: the domain or IP you need may be listed in DirectSites or DirectIp.
How do I make local resources go direct instead of through the proxy?
The default routing profile already sends the local networks 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12 and 192.168.0.0/16 directly. Add your own domains to DirectSites and addresses to DirectIp. Pre-release 4.4.6 also added a setting for system proxy exclusions. Routing changes apply on the next connection.
Can I set up Happ on a PC when the subscription server is unreachable?
A single server key is added without any request to the provider: you can paste it from the clipboard or type it in through manual entry. A subscription, however, needs a response from the subscription server. If it does not answer within 9 seconds, Happ shows a subscription add timeout. In that case try again later, or temporarily import a separate key if your provider issues one.
