On Android, Happ works through the system VPN interface: on the first connection the system shows a request to create a VPN, and without your consent traffic will not go through the tunnel. Before You Start
Setting up Happ on Android takes a couple of minutes: add a key or subscription, pick a server and allow the system to create a VPN connection.
Happ's main mode on Android is the system VPN interface. App traffic goes through it according to the subscription's routing rules.
The guide fits phones and tablets on Android 5.0 and newer. The names of system menus differ slightly between Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei and stock Android.
Step-by-Step Setup
Open Happ and allow notifications
Launch Happ after installation. On Android 13 and newer the system asks for notification permission: allow it so you can see the connection status in the notification shade.
Result: The main screen with no servers, and notifications for Happ are allowed.
Add a key or subscription
Copy a key or subscription address, tap “+” at the top right and choose paste from clipboard. Instead, you can scan a QR code or open a deep link from your provider. For your own server there is manual entry.
Result: The servers appear in the server list, and a subscription shows its name.
Pick a server
Tap a server in the list. If there are many servers, first run a ping for the whole subscription with the speedometer icon in its header and choose the server with the lower delay.
Result: The chosen server is marked in the list.
Connect and confirm the Android request
Tap the connect button. On the first connection Android shows a system request to create a VPN connection; tap OK.
Result: A key icon appears in the status bar, and a Happ notification in the shade.
Check the connection
Swipe a server to the right and tap the speedometer icon, or run the current connection check. The Via Proxy HEAD method shows the delay through the proxy most accurately.
Result: Instead of a timeout, a time in ms or a green status icon is shown.
Remove battery restrictions
Open Settings → Apps → Happ → Battery and turn off optimization. On Xiaomi allow autostart, and on Huawei turn on manual launch management.
Result: The tunnel holds while the screen is off.
Configure routing and the LAN if needed
Import a routing profile with a happ://routing/onadd/ link. To share access with a laptop or set-top box over Wi-Fi, turn on Allow LAN connections in Advanced settings.
Result: A profile is active, and with LAN enabled the phone's IP and the SOCKS5 and HTTP ports are visible.
Connection Modes
- Android VPN interface — Happ creates a system VPN interface through the VpnService mechanism and sends app traffic into it. In beta 4.4.0 it switched to hev-socks5-tunnel for this and optimized memory use.
- LAN sharing — With Allow LAN connections turned on, the phone accepts SOCKS5 and HTTP connections from devices on the same Wi-Fi network. This does not work on a mobile network or on guest networks with client isolation.

Tips
If the key icon is there but websites do not open, check the time on the phone. Some protocols and TLS are sensitive to clock drift, so turn on automatic date and time.
When you move from Wi-Fi to a mobile network, the connection to the server is set up again. If it does not recover, reconnect manually. In roaming and on mobile networks with an unstable signal, choose the server with the lowest delay.
Private DNS in Android settings may send queries by its own rules. If domains open only every other time, try turning Private DNS off for a while and compare.
If Happ is empty after a firmware change or a phone reset, import the subscription again: the data is stored only on the device.

How do I see traffic and the subscription expiry in Happ on Android?
The provider sends this data in the subscription-userinfo header: uploaded and downloaded traffic, the total limit and the expiry date. Happ shows it on the subscription. If the provider turns on sub-expire, the app warns you 3 days before the subscription ends. If there is no data, the subscription server simply does not send it.
How do I add a routing profile to Happ on Android?
Open a link like happ://routing/onadd/ with the profile data in base64: Happ adds the profile and activates it right away. The happ://routing/add/ link only adds the profile, and happ://routing/off turns routing off. You can build a profile in the routing.happ.su generator. The rules apply on the next connection.
