In short
Happ for Mac OS has two official options: the App Store app (Mac Catalyst, macOS 15 and newer) and the universal DMG from GitHub (Qt 6, macOS 13 and newer, Apple Silicon and Intel).
The App Store version is a native Swift app built with Mac Catalyst from the same base as Happ for iPhone. It updates through the App Store and requires macOS 15. The DMG is a desktop build on Qt 6, shared with Windows and Linux. It works from macOS 13 and is distributed through GitHub releases. As of 2026-09-27 the official app cannot be found in the Russian App Store, so with a Russian Apple ID the DMG is the main option.
Happ for macOS
Happ for macOS is a client on the Xray-core engine for connecting to your own servers. On a Mac you can get it in two official ways: from the App Store or as a DMG image from the releases page on GitHub.
The choice depends on your macOS version and Apple ID region. The two builds have different foundations, so instructions for one do not always match the other.
Both builds are free and come without servers. After installation you will need your own key or subscription.

Builds and system requirements
| Build | Technology | Minimum OS version |
|---|---|---|
| Happ - Proxy Utility from the App Store | Native Swift app, Mac Catalyst, App Store | macOS 15 and newer |
| Happ for macOS (DMG) | Qt 6, universal DMG image for Apple Silicon and Intel | macOS 13 and newer |
Which build to choose
If your Mac runs macOS 15 or newer and the App Store opens the Happ - Proxy Utility page, take the App Store version. It updates automatically and is the closest to Happ for iPhone and iPad.
If you have macOS 13 or 14, or your Apple ID is registered in a region where the app cannot be found, download Happ.macOS.universal.dmg. It is a single image for Apple Silicon and Intel.
People also choose the DMG when they need the features of the desktop branch. For example, prerelease 4.4.6 added system proxy exceptions, Xray TUN by default and separate settings for each subscription.
Neither current build works on a Mac with macOS 12 or older. For older systems the developer keeps the Legacy 1.0.2 release on GitHub.
How to make sure the file is official
Check the developer in the App Store
On the app's App Store page, make sure the name is Happ - Proxy Utility and the developer shown under it is Flyfrog LLC. Apps with a similar name from other companies are not official.
Result: The developer is Flyfrog LLC and the app is free.
Download the DMG only from GitHub releases
Open the link from the documentation or the Releases section of the Happ-proxy/happ-desktop repository and download Happ.macOS.universal.dmg from the Assets list.
Result: The Downloads folder contains a file named Happ.macOS.universal.dmg, and its size matches the one shown on GitHub.
Check the app signature in Terminal
After copying the app to Applications, run codesign -dv --verbose=4 and spctl -a -vv with the path to the app, for example /Applications/Happ.app. Look at the Authority and TeamIdentifier lines. If a SHA-256 hash is published on the release page, compare it with the output of shasum -a 256.
Result: The utilities show signature details without errors, and the hash, if there is one, matches.
Handle the Gatekeeper warning deliberately
On first launch macOS may ask whether you really want to open a program downloaded from the internet. Confirm only for a file downloaded from the official link that passed the checks above.
Result: Happ opens and the system warning no longer appears.
How to update Happ
The App Store version updates like any Mac app: automatically, or manually in the Updates section of the App Store. As of 2026-09-27 the current version is 5.9.0 from September 22.
The DMG is updated manually. Download a fresh Happ.macOS.universal.dmg from the same latest/download link, close Happ and replace the app in the Applications folder.
Turn off the tunnel in Happ before replacing it. That way macOS is not left with proxy settings or routes from the old version.
The stable desktop-branch release as of 2026-09-27 is 4.3.0, which fixed the loss of the tunnel after sleep on macOS. Install prerelease 4.4.6 only if you need its new features.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Happ DMG different from the App Store version?
They are two different programs. The App Store version is written in Swift and built with Mac Catalyst. It looks and works much like Happ for iPhone and updates through the App Store. The DMG is built on Qt 6, like the Windows and Linux versions, and gets the same desktop-branch features, for example separate settings for each subscription in prerelease 4.4.6.
Which Happ version should I install on macOS 13 or 14?
Only the DMG. The App Store app needs macOS 15 or newer, so on Ventura and Sonoma the App Store will not offer the installation. The universal Happ.macOS.universal.dmg image from the GitHub releases works from macOS 13. If your Mac is even older, the current Qt 6 desktop build will not start.
Is Happ for Mac suitable for an Intel Mac?
Yes. The Happ.macOS.universal.dmg image is universal: it contains code for both Apple Silicon and Intel processors, and macOS picks the right one itself. You do not need to download a separate Intel build. The only requirement is that the Mac runs macOS 13 or newer.
Why can't I find Happ in the Mac App Store?
Most often the cause is the Apple ID region. As of 2026-09-27 the official Happ - Proxy Utility app from Flyfrog LLC cannot be found in the Russian App Store. The second cause is the system version: the Mac App Store does not offer the installation on macOS below 15. In both cases you can install the DMG from GitHub.
Can I install both Happ versions on one Mac?
Technically they are two separate apps, but you should not keep them both running. Each creates a tunnel and changes network settings, and two active connections interfere with each other. If you want to compare them, use one version at a time and disconnect in the other. Subscriptions are added separately in each version.
Which Happ apps in the App Store are not official?
The official app is called Happ - Proxy Utility, and its developer is Flyfrog LLC. The Russian App Store also lists apps with Happ in the name from other developers, for example Coconut Pools LLC, Qinghai Yanqiao Network Technology and SPK TECH LTD. These are not the official Happ, even if the icon looks similar.
Do I have to pay for Happ on a Mac?
No. Happ - Proxy Utility is free in the App Store, and the DMG from the GitHub releases is free too. Money can be taken only by the owner of the server you connect to, if it is a paid provider. Happ itself provides no servers and does not collect data: information about your connections stays on the Mac.
