Download Happ for Windows

Happ for Windows is a client for connecting to your own proxy servers, built on the Xray-core engine. The desktop version is written in Qt 6 and is shared by Windows, macOS (DMG) and Linux.

Download the installer only from the developer's releases page on GitHub. The latest/download links always point to the latest stable release, so you do not need to update them by hand.

Happ itself contains no servers. After installation you will need a key or a subscription link, because without one the app has nothing to connect to.

For a regular laptop or desktop PC with an Intel or AMD processor, choose setup-Happ.x64.exe. This is the most common case, and it is the link people look for when they search for "download Happ for PC".

For laptops with ARM processors, for example Snapdragon, take setup-Happ.arm64.exe. You can see the processor type in Settings → System → About.

If the computer runs Windows 7 or 8, the current installer will not start because of the Qt 6 requirements. In that case open the Legacy 1.0.2 release or, more reliably, update the system to Windows 10 1809+ or Windows 11.

Install a prerelease only for a specific fix. For example, in 4.4.6 the installer checks by itself that the Happ background service is installed and running, and explains what went wrong.

   Download the file from the link in the documentation

   Open the download table on docs.happ.info or the Releases section of the github.com/Happ-proxy/happ-desktop repository. Click setup-Happ.x64.exe or setup-Happ.arm64.exe in the Assets list of the release you need.

   Result: The browser downloads the file from github.com or a related GitHub download domain.

   Compare the file name and size

   Open the Downloads folder and check that the name starts with setup-Happ and ends with .x64.exe or .arm64.exe. Compare the size with the one in the Assets list on the release page.

   Result: The name matches the official one and the size matches the one shown on GitHub.

   Look at the installer's digital signature

   Right-click the file and choose Properties. If there is a Digital Signatures tab, open it and look at the signer's name. If a SHA-256 hash is published on the release page, run Get-FileHash in PowerShell and compare the result.

   Result: The signature details or the hash do not contradict the information on the release page.

   Treat SmartScreen with care

   If SmartScreen shows the window "Windows protected your PC", run the file only if it was downloaded from the official link and passed the checks above. A file from a third-party source is better deleted in this situation.

   Result: The installer starts and asks for administrator rights to install the Happ service.

To update Happ on Windows, download a fresh installer from the same latest/download link and run it over the installed version.

In prerelease 4.4.6 the update closes the running app by itself in about 2 seconds. In older versions, close Happ manually so that the installer can replace the files and the service.

If a message about an unexpected stop of the Happ service appears after an update, reinstall the app with the same installer. For such cases, release 4.3.0 shows a clear message about reinstalling.

Keep your subscription links at hand before updating. The data is stored on the device, and importing again takes a minute if something goes wrong.
